What Color Clouds actually is
Color clouds are a lit haze effect: fog plus a saturated light aimed through it, which turns the air itself into your color. Because it is the light doing the work, we can match your palette on the day rather than committing to a cartridge months in advance. It is the most photograph-driven effect on the list, and it is the one our own photographers ask for.
When to use it
Anywhere a photographer is already set up. A portrait moment after the ceremony, the first dance, or a deliberate five minutes away from the reception for the two of you. This is not a crowd effect. Pick it if you want a frame you will print rather than a reaction from the room.
Will your venue allow it?
Haze is the part venues ask about, because unlike low fog it does rise. Some rooms allow it freely, some want the detectors isolated first, and some say no. We check before your date, and if the answer is no, Dancing on the Clouds almost always gets approved in the same room.
Fire code differs by city and by building. In Texas it sits with the Texas State Fire Marshal's Office and in Arizona with the Arizona Office of the State Fire Marshal. If your venue wants documentation, ask us and we will get it to them.
Color Clouds questions couples ask
What is a color cloud effect at a wedding?
A color cloud is haze lit with a saturated color so the air around you takes on that color in photographs. At Weddings Unlimited the color is matched to your palette on the day rather than fixed in advance, and it is part of Magic Moments at $395.
Will color clouds set off the smoke detectors?
Haze rises, unlike the low fog used for Dancing on the Clouds, so some venues require detectors to be isolated first and a few do not allow it at all. Weddings Unlimited confirms the answer with your venue before your date, and where haze is not allowed we suggest Dancing on the Clouds instead.
Can we choose the color?
Yes. The color comes from the lighting rather than from a cartridge, so we match your wedding palette on the day. If you are already booking uplighting we keep both in the same color family so the photos read as one room.
How much do color clouds cost?
Color clouds are part of Magic Moments at Weddings Unlimited, which is $395 for special effects and lighting added to your wedding, and the price drops when it is bundled with photography, videography, DJ and MC, photo booth or coordination.
