Friendly Pines is a hundred and thirty acre camp property in the ponderosa pines south of Prescott, with a private lake, hiking trails and cabins that sleep up to three hundred. Weddings here are full weekend buyouts, Friday to Sunday, which is a completely different kind of wedding to photograph: the guests stay, the zip line and the axe throwing and the barbecue on Friday night are all part of the story, and by Saturday everybody already knows each other. The ceremony happens outdoors in the trees and the reception runs under a pavilion. Prescott sits high enough that it is cool when Phoenix is not. We have photographed, filmed and DJed weddings here, and the tree cover is the technical problem worth naming: heavy dappled light all afternoon, then nothing at all after sunset unless you brought it.
